President Obama to Visit Colorado Shooting Victims

President Obama is scheduled to talk with families of the victims of the Colorado theater shootings. A vigil is set for later in the day

President Barack Obama left Washington D.C. and flew to Colorado Sunday to be with families of victims of the movie theater massacre that left at least 12 dead and 58 wounded.

Obama is scheduled to meet in private with members of the families of the victims — ranging from six to 51 years of age – who were shot to death in the Denver-area suburb of Aurora when a gunman opened fire on moviegoers during a packed showing of "The Dark Knight Rises."

In Aurora, which is not far from the scene of the 1999 Columbine High School student massacre, the victims were remembered at church services all around the city.

"Our culture needs to change," Father Mauricio Bermudez told a packed mass at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church, according to Reuters.

"What kind of people are we becoming? Today, we must change. Today is the day."

A vigil is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Sunday in front of Aurora city hall, organized by civic, community, and religious leaders. President Obama is not expected to attend; officials said he will make a statment at 4:30 p.m. ET.

"We can now start the natural process of grieving and healing," Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan said at a memorial late on Saturday for one young shooting victim, according to Reuters. "We're still reeling."
