John Oliver Rips the Books Open on Vladimir Putin’s Finances (Video)

Despite officially making $100,000 a year, Russian president’s reported wealth places him among richest in the world

Come on, Vlad, we know how much that custom track suit costs.

John Oliver spent the lion’s share of Sunday’s “Last Week Tonight” episode dissecting the weird relationship between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, pointing out how much secretly wealthier the Eastern European leader is than the stateside one. The HBO host also tore to shreds POTUS’ numerous defenses of the man who should be counted among his chief diplomatic rivals.

“It’s weird that you’ve been objectively nicer to Vladimir Putin than you’ve been to Meryl Streep,” Oliver said, later referring to Trump as “basically the propagandist of Putin’s dreams.”

Anyway, let’s follow the money along with the former “Daily Show” correspondent.

Officially, Putin makes just about $100,000 a year. Somehow, he’s worth a reported $40-85 billion. That would make him one of the richest men in the world, which Oliver dove headfirst into, even exposing the holdings of Putin’s professional aerobic dancer daughter.

It seems like someone might be wetting his beak on his nation’s deals a little bit. Watch the video above.
