Ratings: ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Hits Season High as CBS Wins Night

New Fox drama "The Following" slips 12 percent

CBS's "How I Met Your Mother" inched up to a season high and drew the night's top ratings, helping to push the network to an overall win on Monday night, while The CW's freshman series "The Carrie Diaries" also reached a high in its fourth week, according to preliminary numbers.

CBS drew first place in the advertiser-preferred 18-49 demographic, with a 3.1 rating/8 share, and in total viewers, with 10.1 million. "How I Met Your Mother" at 8 p.m. ticked up 3 percent from its last original airing two weeks ago to win the key demo with a 4.0/11 — a season high for the series — and had 10.3 million total viewers. "Rules of Engagement" at 8:30 premiered its new season with a 3.1/8, down 14 percent from its October 2011 season premiere, and took 9.3 million total viewers. "2 Broke Girls" at 9 was down marginally in the demo for a 3.6/9, but had the night's largest total viewership with 11.2 million. "Mike & Molly" at 9:30 drew a 3.1/8 with 10.7 million total viewers, and "Hawaii Five-0" at 10 took a 2.3/6 with 9.6 million total viewers.

Fox took second place in ratings and total viewers with a 2.6/7 and 9 million. "Bones" at 8 slipped 12 percent to a 2.3/6 and drew 9 million total viewers, while the new drama "The Following" at 9 was also down 12 percent, posting a 2.9/7 and pulling 8.9 million total viewers.

ABC grabbed third in ratings total viewers with a 2.2/6 and 8.1 million. "The Bachelor" at 8 had a 2.4/6 with 7.8 million total viewers, while "Castle" at 10 dipped 10 percent from its last original two weeks ago for a 1.8/5, and had 8.8 million total viewers.

NBC came in fourth in ratings and total viewers with a 1.8/5 and 4.9 million. "The Biggest Loser" at 8 slipped 13 percent to a season low of 2.0/5 and took 5.8 million total viewers. The new drama "Deception" at 10 tied last week's series low with a 1.2/3 and had 3.1 million total viewers.

Univision took fifth place in ratings and total viewers with a 1.7/4 and 4 million.

On The CW, which averaged a 0.5/1 and 1.2 million total viewers, "The Carrie Diaries" at 8 reached a series high of 0.7/2 with 1.5 million total viewers. "90210" the following hour posted a 0.4/1 with 791,000 total viewers.
