Ratings: NBC Claims Victory on Night of Trump’s Presidential Address

“American Ninja Warrior” certainly didn’t hurt the network’s efforts either

NBC topped Monday night’s primetime, which was interrupted from 9-9:30 p.m. ET for President Trump’s address to the nation.

In the 8 p.m., NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” and ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise” tied for first place among adults 18-49. “Ninja Warrior” topped total viewers. The two reality shows kept most of their momentum going after Trump bumped them.

Some preseason NFL football on ABC’s New York station also muddied the waters a bit last night. More-accurate Nielsen numbers are due in later this afternoon.

NBC was first in ratings with a 1.2 rating/5 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 5.2 million, according to these very preliminary numbers. At 8, “American Ninja Warrior” put up a 1.4/6 and 6.1 million viewers. We’ll stop right there for NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox, which carried Trump’s speech at 9 p.m. ET, rendering the current numbers we have for the rest of the night unreliable.

ABC was second in ratings with a 1.1/4 and in viewers with 4.2 million. “Bachelor in Paradise” and that preseason Giants at Cleveland Browns preseason football game gave ABC a 1.4/6 and 5.1 million viewers. Even those are imperfect figures, however, due to the nature of live sports in a major market.

Telemundo was third in ratings with a 0.8/3, but fifth in viewers with 1.8 million.

CBS and Fox tied for fourth in ratings, both with a 0.6/2. CBS was third in total viewers with 3.5 million, Fox was fourth with 2.7 million. CBS aired reruns in the 8 o’clock hour. Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” got a 0.7/3 and 2.9 million viewers during those 60 minutes.

Univision was sixth in ratings with a 0.5/2 and in viewers with 1.5 million.

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.2/1 and in viewers with 968,000. After a repeat, “Hooten & the Lady” managed just a 0.2/1 and 809,000 viewers.
