Ratings: ‘Sunday Night Football’ Tackles ABC’s ‘Miss America’ for NBC Win

Twenty-four million people tune in to watch NFL games, while beauty pageant draws 7 million

The Cowboys-Giants NFL game led NBC to a ratings win Sunday night, according to preliminary numbers. The network topped both the key 18-49 demographic and total viewers.

CBS came in second with a new episode of “Big Brother,” while on ABC, the “Miss America” pageant, featuring the return of Vanessa Williams, led the network to a third-place finish.

Due to the nature of live sports, Nielsen’s fast national numbers are preliminary and subject to change.

NBC was first an average 7.6 rating/23 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 20.2 million, according to preliminary numbers. The Cowboys-Giants game, on at 8:30 p.m., scored a 9.2/26 and was watched by 24.5 million total viewers.

CBS was second with a 2.2/7 in the demo and in viewers with 8.1 million. surrounded by repeats, a new episode of “Big Brother” got a 2.2/6 and 6.8 total viewers.

ABC was third in ratings with a 1.2/4 and in viewers with 5.7 million. “Miss America,” which aired at 9 p.m., got a 1.5/4, down 6% from last year’s pageant airing, and was watched by 7 million viewers.

Fox, airing re-runs all night, was fourth in ratings with a 0.9/3 and in viewers with 2.1 million.

Univision was fifth in ratings with a 0.7/2 and in viewers with 2 million.

Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.2/1 and in viewers with 691,000.
