‘Rescue Me,’ ‘Louie’ Get FX Return Dates; ‘Wilfred’ Debut Set

“Louie,” “Wilfred” to air on same night

The final season of "Rescue Me" will debut July 12, while June 23 will see the return of Louie C.K.'s "Louie" and the debut of the Elijah Wood comedy "Wilfred," FX announced  Wednesday.

"Rescue Me" will air its final nine episodes starting Tuesday, July 12 at 10 p.m. The seventh season finds Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary) recognizing "how deeply he is in need of rescue and how time is running out on his last chances for redemption," according to FX.

FX's Thursday lineup, meanwhile, may be a dream for fans of disquieting comedy.

"Wilfred," based on the Australian series of the same title, is about a man (Wood), an introvert who struggles through life until he meets his neighbor's dog, "Wilfred" (played by Jason Gann, co-creator of the Australian series). While everyone else sees Wilfred as a dog, Wood's Ryan sees him as a man in a dog suit.

The show  debuts June 23 at 10 p.m., and will be followed at 10:30 by the second season of "Louie."

The complete first season of "Louie" will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on June 21.
