Ridley Scott to Executive Produce 6 Low-Budget Sci-Fi and Horror Films

The films will be produced by Scott Free London and Orchard Media

Ridley Scott and his production company Scott Free London will partner with Orchard Media and Focus Features International on six low-budget feature films.

Getty ImagesScott, who is best known for his bleak futuristic fables like "Alien" and "Blade Runner,"  will executive produce the movies, which will be focused primarily on horror, thriller and science fiction. Cameras will roll on the films over the next three years. 

“Our target is to create a structure that enables filmmakers to push boundaries and to excite audiences," Scott said in a statement. "Our proposed model of filmmaking allows us to give directors the opportunity to really innovate through narrative, production techniques and distribution strategies.”

The films will be produced in association with Northern Ireland Screen and will shoot primarily in the country with local crew, cast, services and facilities. the partners said Wednesday.

Focus Features International will handle worldwide sales.

In his capacity as a director, Scott's next movie "The Counselor," a legal thriller starring Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender, hits theaters in 2013.
