Lucy Hale’s Katy Keene is coming to “Riverdale” the day before her own series debuts on The CW.
Hale will appear as the title character from the upcoming “Riverdale” spinoff series in an episode of “Riverdale” airing Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 8/7c. During that hour, “Veronica (Camila Mendes) will be traveling to New York for a college interview and while in the city, she’ll be visiting her old friend Katy Keene (Hale) and going on a shopping spree,” according to The CW’s official description.
The following day, Thursday, Feb. 6, “Katy Keene” will premiere at 8/7c.
“Before ‘Katy Keene’ officially premieres, we all thought it would be super-fun to do a crossover that took Veronica to Katy’s world — New York City — and established Katy in the ‘Riverdale’ universe,” “Riverdale” and “Katy Keene” creator/showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and “Katy Keene” executive producer Michael Grassi said in a statement Wednesday. “For our first ‘Riverdale/Katy’ crossover, we couldn’t be more excited that it’s old friends Veronica and Katy–Cami and Lucy–having fun and heart-to-hearts!”
Aguirre-Sacasa made the initial crossover announcement earlier Wednesday on Twitter: “The news is out! Veronica’s going to NYC and #Katykeene is coming to #Riverdale! So excited for our first #Archiverse crossover!!”
The showrunner also shared a shot of Veronica back in action in NYC, standing in front of Katy in what appears to be a dressing room, which is very on-brand for both girls, as Veronica is a fashionista and Katy is an aspiring fashion designer.
Though “Riverdale” already has one sister series, Netflix’s “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” this does mark the first crossover within the Archieverse of shows created by Aguirre-Sacasa. But he’s still trying to work out a “Riverdale”-“Sabrina” installment.
“Katy Keene” follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene (Hale), singer/songwriter Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), performer Jorge Lopez/Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp), and “It Girl” Pepper Smith (Julia Chan) — as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City together.
