Robert Forster Remembered in Hollywood as ‘Uncommonly Kind’ and ‘a True Gentleman’

The “Jackie Brown” and “Twin Peaks” star died Friday of brain cancer

Celebrity fans and friends of Robert Forster came out in droves to pay tribute to the “Jackie Brown” and “Twin Peaks” actor, who died Friday from brain cancer.

Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, who directed Forster in his Academy Award-nominated role as bail bondsman Max Cherry in “Jackie Brown,” released a statement, saying casting him in that film “was one of the best choices I’ve ever made in my life.”

“Today the world is left with one less gentlemen,” Tarantino’s statement reads. “One less square shooter. One less good man. One less wonderful father. One less marvelous actor. I remember all the breakfasts we had at silver spoons. All the stories. All the kind words. All the support. Casting Robert Forster in Jackie Brown was one of the best choices I’ve ever made in my life. I will miss you dearly my old friend. Bye bye Max. Bye bye Miles. Bye bye Bob.”

Forster, who died Friday in his Los Angeles home, made his first impression on Hollywood audience in 1967 with John Huston’s “Reflections in a Golden Eye,” starring Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor. In the years that followed, Forster had roles in films like “The Lady in Red,” “The Black Hole” and “Delta Force,” but it was Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown” that gave his career a boost… and an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Forster went on to star as Sheriff Frank Truman on “Twin Peaks” and can currently be seen in “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie” on Netflix.

“El Camino” star Aaron Paul tweeted that he was heartbroken to hear of Forster’s passing, calling him a “beautiful man” and “a true gentleman.”

Forster’s “Breaking Bad” costar Bryan Cranston also weighed in, recalling the first time they worked together four decades ago.
