Roku Greenlights Foodie Shows from ‘Iron Chef’ Star Masaharu Morimoto and Michael Strahan

The streaming platform also reveals hosts and premiere date for Spanish-language series “¡Que Delicioso!”

Two new lifestyle series are being added to Roku Originals’ slate of programming, and its upcoming Spanish-language original series “¡Que Delicioso!” has officially announced its premiere date and hosts. 

Thursday, Roku announced “Morimoto’s Sushi Master” and “The Cupcake Guys” will be the newest original series joining the Roku Originals family.

On “Morimoto’s Sushi Master,” eight contestants will battle it out against one another to see who comes out on top as the master sushi chef. Hosted by “Marvel’s Runaways” star Lyrica Okano, the six-episode unscripted series will feature “Iron Chef” star and restauranteur Masaharu Morimoto, who will also act as the lead judge. Chef Dakota Weiss, executive chef of Coyote Café and former co-owner of Sweetfin Poke, and Chef Kenji Lopez-Alt, the New York Times food columnist and author of bestselling cookbook “The Food Lab,” will also serve as judges.

“Morimoto’s Sushi Master” will be produced by Ample Entertainement. Ari Mark, Phil Lott, Kathryn Vaughn, Liz Cook and Morimoto serve as executive producers. 

“The Cupcake Guys” is a six-part docuseries that follows NFL stars Michael Griffin and Brian Orakpo as they navigate the challenges and daily events of operating their cupcake shop alongside their business partner Bryan Hynson. 

“The Cupcake Guys” is produced by The Story Lab and SMAC Productions, a division of SMAC Entertainment. Former NFL player and TV personality Michael Strahan stands as one of the series’ executive producers, with Constance Schwartz-Morini and FredAnthony Smith. Mike Ferry, Cathy Boxall and Roy Bank will also serve as executive producers. 

In addition, Roku shared its new show “¡Que Delicioso!” will premiere on Friday, Nov. 25, with Marcela Valladolid and Chris Valdes as hosts and judges for the seven-part series. The Spanish-language program that celebrates Latin cuisine will be produced by World of Wonder and Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey. Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato, Tom Campbell, Richard Borjas, John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa serve as executive producers. Moira Noriega will co-EP the series. 

“The addition of ‘Morimoto’s Sushi Master,’ ‘The Cupcake Guys’ and ‘¡Que Delicioso!’ to the Roku Originals lineup encapsulates our commitment to premium, original series that are representative and reflective of our diverse streaming audience,” Brian Tannenbaum, Roku’s head of Alternative Originals, said in a statement. “Each of these series offers a fresh take on formats that we know will instantly connect with our audience, and we look forward to sharing these projects on The Roku Channel.” 

Other Roku Originals include “The Great American Baking Show,” “To Paris for Love: A Reality Rom-Com,” and “Match Me in Miami,” which all stream exclusively on the video streaming player.
