Logo has renewed “RuPaul’s Drag Race” for a ninth season and gave the go ahead for new Kelly Ripa-produced show “Fire Island,” TheWrap has learned.
“Drag Race” scored its third Emmy nomination this year, and has continued to see an exponential growth in its audience.
“Fire Island, which follows a a group of young New York City professionals who leave their stressful big city lives and escape to Fire Island Pines, is produced by Ripa and Mark Consuelos‘ Milojo Productions.
“‘Fire Island’ is an exciting new addition to Logo’s slate and perfectly complements the stories our audience craves,” said the SVP of original programing for Logo, Pamela Post. “We’re thrilled to give it a home alongside yet another incredible season of intense competition on ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race.'”
“Season 9 of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ will be bigger, better and more twisted than ever,” said the show’s executive producer, RuPaul. “Thank you Logo for continuing to provide a powerful platform for these brave, gorgeous and creative souls to tell their stories. They represent the hopes and dreams of all the outsiders around the world.”
