Weekend Update on this week’s “SNL,” of course, kicked off by taking shots at President Donald Trump for the government shutdown down on Friday night.

“Congratulations to President Trump for managing to keep our government open for almost one whole year,” said Weekend Update co-anchor Colin Jost, noting that Trump is blaming Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for the shutdown because “Trump never misses a chance to blame a minority.”

Jost pointed out the absurdity of the concept of a government shutdown, saying it’s about time “we buy our government instead of leasing it month to month. This is people’s lives, not a Kia Sorento.”

Co-host Michael Che then posed an important question about the impact of the shutdown.

“What I wanna know is, since the government shut down, do we still have to pay taxes for the whole year? Do we get pro-rated or something like that? When my cable shut down, Comcast gave me free HBO for a month. I feel like the government owes us like an eagle or an apple pie or something.”

Che later had the joke of the evening in addressing a certain Trump tweet from this week.

“President Trump tweeted that unemployment for black Americans is at the lowest ever recorded. Mmm, I don’t know, man. I’m pretty sure that before the Civil War black unemployment was at, like, zero.” As the next topic appeared on the screen, Che paused and motioned with his hand like he was waiting for the audience to get the joke.

This edition of Weekend Update featured a whopping four guests, including: Cecily Strong as Stormy Daniels, there to discuss her alleged affair with Donald Trump; Alex Moffat and Mikey Day as Princes William and Harry, respectively, to talk about everything but whether Trump really canceled his visit to Buckingham Palace because the Obamas got along so well with the Royal Family; and Kate McKinnon sporting shocking makeup in order to play Robert Mueller to discuss how well Mueller’s investigation into the Trump campaign and subsequent administration.
