‘Sons of Anarchy’ Creator Kurt Sutter Launching ‘Outlaw Empires’ on Discovery (Video)

Sutter will executive produce and appear on camera in the series that tells the inside stories of the Crips, Irish mob, Italian mafia and, of course, bikers

No one tells a better outlaw story than "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter, and now Sutter will help unfold the tales of real-life men in black in Discovery Channel's six-episode series "Kurt Sutter's Outlaw Empires."

DiscoveryThe series, which premieres on May 14, will delve into the histories of "iconic American outlaw dynasties" like the Crips, the Irish mob, the Italian mafia, the Aryan Brotherhood, the Nuestra Familia gang and, of course, outlaw bikers.

Each episode will focus on a specific group, with firsthand accounts from its  members.

"I've made a career writing about fictitious anti-heroes," Sutter, who was also an executive producer on "The Shield," said in a release. "To create these worlds, I've spent a lot of time with active members on both sides of the law. And if I had to pick the most interesting of the two, the choice is obvious — we all love the guys in black.

"This isn't about making a judgment call on who's good or bad. As a storyteller, I'm drawn to these personal, intimate accounts of why these men made the choices they made, and what it's like to be a member of an outlaw organization."

Sutter, who's currently working on the fifth season of FX's "Sons of Anarchy," will also appear on camera to offer commentary and share his research on the outlaw groups.
