‘Sons of Anarchy’ Star Ron Perlman Tackles Role as Jewish Drug Smuggler in ‘Kid Cannabis’

Rob Perlman, in the middle of shooting "Sons of Anarchy," took a small role in John Stockwell's film

'Sons of Anarchy' star Ron Perlman has joined the cast of “Kid Cannabis,” an indie film about a pair of Idaho teens smuggling weed from British Columbia into the United States, the actor told TheWrap.

The film, which stars Kenny Wormald and Jonathan Daniel Brown, is based on real-life characters, as profiled in Rolling Stone. John Stockwell wrote the script and is directing.

Perlman, who recently shot his scenes, plays an Israeli-American businessman with a clandestine criminal side.

Though on the surface he owns a chain of cell phone stores and has a family, he is “as Mafioso as it gets,” Perlman said.

“He’s so protected, so smart, he’s able to move prolific amounts of marijuana all through North America,” the “Hellboy” star said. “It fascinated me to see a guy who can straddle being an ordinary family guy and having this other life that is singular in scope.”

The film is currently shooting in British Columbia, and Wormald posted a picture (above right) of he and Perlman on his Twitter account. The caption reads "Ron mothafuckin Perlman in the house."

Though Perlman is in the middle of shooting the fifth season of “Sons of Anarchy,” Kurt Sutter’s critically and commercially successful FX show about a motorcycle gang, he was able to squeeze the part in because it only took a day. He flew up Friday, shot on Saturday and flew back Sunday — all in time to be back on the “Sons” set Monday.

“I try not to do too much while in production, but I got a vibe about it,” Perlman said. “I knew it was something I would have fun doing.”
