Sony Keeps De Luca Through 2011

Veteran producer working on “Moneyball,” Facebook film.

Sony has extended its first-look deal with producer Michael De Luca through 2011.

De Luca most recently produced "21" for the studio. He also produced 2007’s "Ghostrider."

 

He is about to begin production on "Priest" for Screen Gems and is currently developing a number of projects for the studio, including "Moneyball," Facebook film "The Social Network" and a film based upon the true story of Capt. Richard Phillips, who was recently captured by Somali pirates and rescued by the U.S. Navy.

 

The extension is is De Luca’s second with the studio, where he has been headquartered since 2004.   

 

In a joint statement, Columbia’s Presidents of Production Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach said, “Mike has delivered commercial, money-making movies and he has a great group of ambitious movies heading into production. With "The Social Network," "Moneyball" and other high profile projects in development, his grasp of mainstream pop culture and excellent filmmaker relationships are helping us tell real-life stories in highly entertaining ways." 

 

Prior to forming Michael De Luca Prods, De Luca served as DreamWorks’ head of production and spent seven years as President and COO of New Line.
