‘Star Trek Picard’: Patrick Stewart Leaves Starfleet to Make Wine in First Teaser for CBS All Access Series (Video)

Now-Admiral Jean-Luc Picard beams back up at the end of this year

CBS All Access beamed up the first teaser for its upcoming “Star Trek” series with Patrick Stewart, and the now-Admiral Jean-Luc Picard is a… winemaker?

The brief minute-long teaser video, which you can watch above, features a voiceover that hints that something happened to Picard to leave Starfleet behind. CBS has kept quiet about character and plot details, only sharing that the series will see Stewart reprise his role as the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” captain in “the next chapter of his life.”

This now includes a career as a vintner.

During the Television Critics Association Press Tour earlier this year, co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman teased a Picard that may look quite different for fans of the series. “It’s been 20-plus years, so he couldn’t possibly be that same person anymore,” Kurtzman said. “Next Generation” ended in 1994 and Stewart’s Picard was last seen in the 2002 film, “Star Trek: Nemesis.”

The series also stars Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Michelle Hurd. “Star Trek: Discovery” alum Hanelle Culpepper will direct the first two episodes.

It will be produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers. Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout) will serve as co-executive producer, and Kirsten Beyer will serve as supervising producer.

No premiere date has been announced, but the show is slated to debut at the end of 2019.
