Stephen Colbert ‘Cannot Wait’ for ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ (Video)

“My only issue is, shouldn’t I have to wait? I’m used to waiting ten years for a new ‘Star Wars’ movie, and twenty for a good one!” jokes the “Late Show” host

Stephen Colbert is just as excited about “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” as the rest of the world after the first trailer debuted on Thursday.

“It is ‘Star Wars!’” said the “Late Show” host on Thursday’s episode. “I mean that in the most way possible. It’s got everything: Stormtroopers, Imperial walkers, that droid that’s just a box with legs! It’s got the ‘Star Wars’ logo, people standing in fluorescent lighting, and of course, the Death Star, which the Empire just can’t stop building for some reason.”

Of the film’s December release, Colbert added, “I cannot wait. My only issue is, shouldn’t I have to wait? I’m used to waiting ten years for a new ‘Star Wars’ movie, and twenty for a good one!”

“Don’t get me wrong — I’m going to be there to see it opening weekend, just like I will for ‘Episode VIII,’ the young Han Solo movie, ‘Episode IX,’ the Boba Fett movie, and VH1′s ‘Behind the Music: Cantina Band,’” he joked. “I’m just happy they put ‘one’ in the title. That way, we know there will be sequels and I can’t wait for the sixth installment, Rogue One 2: Episode III.”

“Rogue One” is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker and Diego Luna.

The movie follows a ragtag team of rebels attempting to steal the plans for the first Death Star prior to the events of “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope.”

“Rogue One” will hit theaters on December 16, 2016.
