Stephen Colbert Thinks J.J. Abrams Is Already ‘Blowing It’ With ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ (Video)

With Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher returning, Colbert hypothesized the seventh installment of the franchise would be called “Star Wars: Episode VII – A New Hip”

Stephen Colbert directed his faux conservative outrage toward “Star Wars: Episode VII” director J.J. Abrams on Tuesday, because he thinks the guy in charge of pleasing one of the biggest fan clubs in the galaxy is “blowing it.”

The “Colbert Report” host wagged his finger at Abrams after Disney, Lucasfilm and Bad Robot released the first photo of the new “Star Wars” cast, which includes franchise rookies Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow.

“It is so cool to get a glimpse behind the scenes, which is why I’m giving a wag of my finger to J.J. Abrams for blowing it,” Colbert said. “Look at this photo. Everything is wrong. Where’s the creature design? Every single character is humanoid, with two arms and two legs.”

It’s not just the lack of aliens that concerned Colbert, either. The self-described “huge fan” of the epic saga George Lucas spawned 37 years ago has plenty of technical bones to pick with the brief glimpse of Abrams vision.
