"Modern Family" co-creator Steve Levitan says a deal is close on the contracts for the show's stars.

"They're very close. Everybody is feeling optimistic about how it's going," he told TheWrap. "You know we had a table read Thursday that went very well. I think that lifted everybody's spirits. I will be surprised if we're not back in business on Monday."

Does he expect a deal to be done by Monday?

"We're all extremely hopeful that it will be and it feels like that is doable," he said.

Levitan said he has talked to all sides in the dispute. He spoke to TheWrap after a week in which the cast initially refused to do a table read for the series, and sued 20th Century Fox Television to be released from their contracts. They later agreed to do the table read, in a sign that tensions might be thawing.

ABC entertainment president Paul Lee also said Friday that he was "optimistic" a deal was close.
