Super Bowl XLV looks on track to unseat last year's game as the most-watched U.S. television broadcast ever.
The game tied Super Bowl XXI in 1987 as the highest-rated ever in metered markets, Fox said Monday. And the Green Bay Packers' win over the Pittsburgh Steelers earned a 47.9/71, three percent better than the 46.4/68 of last year's record-breaking game.
Viewership for the Super Bowl has risen for the past six years because the overall U.S. population continues to rise. Even though last week's game was the most-watched American broadcast, it didn't break ratings records.
The full national numbers are expected later today.
