Oh, baby. Things got a little bumpy for Time on the social media front this week.
The news outlet found itself at the center of mass criticism Thursday, after tweeting about Amal Clooney’s address to the United Nations — and focusing on her baby bump.
“Amal Clooney shows off her baby bump at the United Nations,” Time tweeted on Thursday, linking to a story about Clooney — who’s currently expecting twins — addressing the UN about ISIS.
Time’s choice to focus on Clooney’s figure — coming on the heels of International Women’s Day, no less — drew widespread wrath.
“A particularly bad example of #everydaysexism,” went one reply.
“Jesus Herbert Walker Christ. Let the journalists show you how it’s done,” another responder groused, linking to an Associated Press tweet with a bump-free headline.
“@TIME Nice celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth, @TIME. Reduce a lawyer working to keep humanity civilized down to a baby-dispenser to be gawked at,” another unsatisfied customer declared.
“@TIME And once everyone had finished asking her if she wanted a boy or girl, she got on with all that genocide investigation stuff,” wrote another critic.
“Dear @TIME. The 1950s called, they want their editors back. #sexism,” read yet another scathing reply.

@TIME @motto shame on you for not focusing on substance of her speech. Another example of how women are not taken seriously.

@TIME If a woman is pregnant, chances are, you’ll see her baby bump. Why must a normal appearance be reduced to “show[ing] off”? #stopthis
