TLC’s ‘Best Funeral Ever’ Put on Ice Until December

TLC’s funeral-themed reality series moves closer to the holidays, where it belongs

“Best Funeral Ever” will be late for its own funeral. Again.

The TLC series, originally expected to premiere Oct. 23, will now debut on Dec. 2 at 10 p.m. Which, to be fair, does put it closer to the holiday season.

This isn’t the first time that reality TV’s most funereal offering has received a time-out. TLC’s previous one-off special of “Best Funeral Ever” was initially expected to premiere last December, but was pushed to early January in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., school shootings.

This time around, the reason for the delay is far less grim — network scheduling changes are responsible for the shift.

Centered around Dallas-based funeral home Golden Gate Funeral Home — which specializes in unusual funerals — “Best Funeral Ever” will feature a track and field-themed send-off for Olympic gold medalist Ronnie Ray Smith, as well as a funeral featuring a casket dipped in chocolate for a sweet-toothed decedent.
