Tribeca Film Picks Up ‘The Last Rites of Joe May’

The movie, produced in association with Steppenwolf Films, stars Dennis Farina

Tribeca Film will distribute "The Last Rites of Joe May" in theaters and via video on demand.

The movie, starring Dennis Farina ("Get Shorty," "Midnight Run"), was produced in association with Steppenwolf Films and had its world premiere at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival.

The movie is about a sixty-something hustler of Rolex knockoffs and bootleg DVDs who returns home from a lengthy hospital stay to find that his landlord thought he was dead and rented out his apartment to a single mom with a young daughter.

The con man, played by Farina, ends up sharing the apartment with the woman, played by Jamie Anne Allman.

Joe Maggio wrote and directed the movie.

Stephanie Striegel and Bill Straus produced.

The deal was negotiated by Nick Savva, Tribeca's director of acquisitions and Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films for the producers.

Tribeca plans to release the movie in October.
