ABC’s “The Goldbergs” has a new kid on the block.

Jacob Hopkins has joined the freshman comedy in a guest-starring role with the possibility of becoming recurring, TheWrap has learned.

The 11-year-old will play Chad Kremp, who’s described as preppy and cool on the surface, a geek underneath. He’ll first appear on Episode 107.

On the episode, Chad becomes instant best friends with Adam (Sean Giambrone) as they share a love for all things geeky. Chad’s mom, Virginia, threatens to end their friendship because she worries about his exposure to the Goldberg family’s overbearing and inappropriate behavior.

Hopkins played Vampire Authority member Alexander Drew on the fifth season of HBO’s “True Blood.” He’ll next be seen in the Lifetime movie, “Missing at 17,” premiering on Oct. 19. Hopkins has also recently been cast as the new voice of Gumball Waterson on Cartoon Network’s “The Amazing World of Gumball” starting with its third season premiering in Spring 2014.

Written and executive produced by Adam F. Goldberg (“Breaking In,” “Fanboys”), “The Goldbergs” is set in the 80s and follows the misadventures of an 11-year-old Adam and his offbeat family. It airs Tuesdays at 9/8c.

Earlier this week, TheWrap reported exclusively that “Glee” actress Ginny Gardner had joined the comedy in the recurring role as Carrie, the “bananas hot” classmate of Barry Goldberg (Troy Gentile).

Hopkins is represented by Strong Management and Osbrink Talent Agency.
