Twitter has permanently suspended far-right activist Laura Loomer after she criticized recently-elected Rep. Ilhan Omar
(D-Minn.), making her the latest prominent right-wing voice removed from the social platform.
Loomer’s account went offline on Wednesday afternoon after calling Omar — a Somali refugee and one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress — “anti Jewish” in a tweet. Omar has said she supports the Israel “boycott, divestment, and sanctions” movement.
“Ilhan is pro Sharia Ilhan is pro-[female genital mutilation],” Loomer tweeted. “Under Sharia, homosexuals are oppressed & killed. Women are abused & forced to wear the hijab. Ilhan is anti Jewish.”
Twitter did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment. The Daily Beast was the first to report Loomer’s suspension from Twitter.
In a YouTube video posted on Wednesday night, Loomer said she was suspended for “simply telling the truth.” She added: “I’ve been silenced in America.” Loomer had more than 250,000 followers before she was kicked off Twitter.
Loomer joins InfoWars boss Alex Jones as another right-wing voice to be booted from Twitter in recent months. Jones was kicked off several other platforms, including Facebook and Google-owned YouTube — in September for violating the company’s policy against “abusive behavior.” Jones had criticized CNN reporter Oliver Darcy, saying he had “the eyes of a rat,” among other things.
