Under Pressure, FCC Schedules New Comcast-NBCU Hearing

More than 50 congressmen want to hear more views on diversity issues

Now it's the Federal Communications Commission that is scheduling a hearing on Comcast and NBCU.

A day after the House Judiciary Committee announced it would hold a hearing Monday in Los Angeles, the FCC announced plans for its own hearing, this one to be held in Chicago on July 13 at Northwestern University.

The FCC hasn't often held hearings on merger deals, but this time was facing pressure from congressmen.

Citing concerns about the deal's impact on diverrsity but also concerns about concentration, more than 50 congressmen led by Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., have asked the commission to get more views on the deal.
