‘Veronica Mars’ Movie Gets Release Date

The March, 14, 2014 is welcome news for the TV show’s fans, who drove a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign to fund the project

The “Veronica Mars” movie, powered to the big screen by fans of the TV series in a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign, has been given a release date of March 14, 2014.

Distributor Warner Bros. on Tuesday set the opening for film, which reached its $2 million Kickstarter goal on March 13, the same day that series creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell launched the drive.

Fans of “Veronica Mars” — which ended its three-season run on UPN and the CW in 2007 — have been hoping for a big-screen version pretty much since the series wrapped. They mobilized for the funding campaign, and Kickstarter said it was the fastest to hit $1 million (4 hours, 24 minutes), before going on to take in a whopping $5.7 million.

Warner Bros. wasn’t talking details of the rollout, but in a message to supporters, Thomas said that the studio was planning a nationwide release.

Currently set to open on the same date are the Weinstein Company’s “Grace of Monaco,” starring Nicole Kidman; the Disney action film “Need for Speed” and “Tyler Perry‘s Single Mom’s Club” from Lionsgate.

Besides Bell who reprises her TV role as the teen sleuth, the film version will star Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs, Tina Majorino, Francis Capra, Ryan Hansen and Krysten Ritter are among the cast members of the show that will be in the movie.
