Vice Reporter Arrested While Trying to Enter Donald Trump Campaign Event

“The campaign was not involved in this incident or aware of the details surrounding it,” reads a statement from the campaign

A reporter for VICE News was arrested by Houston Police on Saturday while trying to obtain press credentials for a Donald Trump campaign event.

According to VICE, Alex Thompson was charged with trespassing and is currently being held at Houston Central Jail.

The publication states that they requested access to the campaign event earlier this week, but the status on the application never changed from “pending.” Thompson entered the lobby of the Omni hotel, where the event was being held, to ask one of Trump’s staff members about the status.

The hotel manager allegedly asked Thompson to leave and threatened arrest if he did not comply. Two minutes later, without further warning, he was arrested by Houston police, handcuffed and escorted outside.

The campaign told the publication in a statement that “the campaign was not involved in this incident or aware of the details surrounding it. The event organizers were responsible for today’s media presence and requested the campaign limit attendance to the traveling pool. The campaign had no staff presence at check-in for guests or media and therefore has no further knowledge of what occurred.”

Representatives from the Trump campaign, Houston PD and the Omni hotel have not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment.
