Watch Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert Not Coordinating (Video)

Jon Stewart can't get direct orders from Colbert on how to spend Super PAC money — if only there was some way around that

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert offered a helpful lesson in how Super PACs work Tuesday — with help from a cardboard TV.

Stewart independently controls the Super PAC that supports Colbert in his run for president. But Colbert — like Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and countless others who say they have no control over their Super PACs — can't directly coordinate with the head of his Super PAC about how its money should be spent.

Colbert can, however, go on TV to express his opinions about PAC ads — as long as he doesn't speak to Stewart directly. He can also talk to a third party, while sitting with his head pressed into Stewart's. Which is exactly what they did on Tuesday's "The Daily Show."
