Watch ‘Minions’ Honest Trailer: ‘Despicable Greed’ (Video)

Screen Junkies rips into one of the most successful movies of the year

The popular “Minions” movie, which has grossed $1.2 billion worldwide since its summer debut, is being ridiculed in the latest Honest Trailer from the team at Screen Junkies.

“From Universal Pictures… marketing department, comes one of the most expensive, far-reaching promotional campaigns of all time,” says a voiceover in the trailer. “And also a movie.”

The trailer makes fun of the spin-off of “Despicable Me,” renaming “Minions” to “Despicable Greed.”

“Now, in the tradition of ‘Joey,’ ‘The Cleveland Show,’ and ‘The Battle for Endor’ comes a spin-off that takes a character who’s fun in small doses, and makes you wish they stayed in the background,” the voiceover continues.

While “Minions” is supposed to be an origin story, the movie doesn’t tell you what a minion is, where their language comes from, and what their gender is, the trailer points out.

However, Pierre Coffin, creator of the little yellow helpers, told TheWrap in July that the creatures actually do have a gender — every single one of them is male.

“Seeing how dumb and stupid they often are, I just couldn’t imagine Minions being girls,” Coffin said.

The Honest Trailer series has garnered more than 550 million views on YouTube, including popular editions for “Breaking Bad,” “Frozen,” “Independence Day,” “The Hunger Games,” “The Dark Knight,” and “The Avengers,” among others.
