‘Weeds’: Who Got Shot?

"Weeds" brings back a blast from the past and Nancy Botwin faces her greatest challenge

(Spoiler alert: Don't read if you don't want to know who was shot on "Weeds.")

"Weeds" ended its seventh season last year with a cliff-hanger.

As Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker), the drug-dealing suburban exile, raised her glass of wine to toast the new palatial mansion that pot bought, a target appeared on her face, a gun shot sounded and the credits rolled.

The Showtime comedy returned Sunday, kicking off its eighth and final season Sunday night with that literal bang: It turns out Nancy was hit.

The good news: She looks likely to survive her wound, albeit after what could be a difficult recovery. So it was on to the next mystery — who was the gunman or woman?

There's no shortage of candidates. After all, over the course of "Weeds" eight seasons, Nancy has burned down her posh suburb, become impregnated by a Mexican drug lord, covered up the murder of his top aide and been an all-around terrible parent.

Was it Heylia (Tonya Perkins), Nancy's grumpy former dealer? Was it an agent of Esteban (Demián Bichir), her now-deceased ex? Was it Emma, the head of rival drug ring Pouncy House?

Or perhaps it was "Weeds" watchers, fed up with the series' crazy plot twists?

None of the above, it turns out. Instead the "Weeds" team pulled out a totally random blast from the past.

Tim Scottson (Daryl Sabara), the ginger-haired son of Nancy's former DEA agent lover Peter Scottson (Martin Donovan), pulled the trigger. Presumably, he blames Nancy for his father's death at the end of show's second season. But based on his late night visit to her bedside, he's not feeling so hot about his attempted murder.

What do you think, "Weeds" watchers? Were you burning at the big reveal?
