‘What We Do in The Shadows,’ a Comedy from ‘Flight of the Conchords’ Creators, Gets Release Date

The winner of the Toronto Film Fest People’s Choice Award debuts on Feb. 13 in Los Angeles and New York

Unison Films, in association with Funny or Die and Paladin, will release “What We Do in the Shadows” on Feb. 13 in New York and Los Angeles.

The comedy from “Flight of the Conchords” creators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi won the Toronto Film Festival People’s Choice Award earlier this year. Following its debut, the film will expand to San Francisco, Philadelphia, Boston, Seattle and Washington, D.C. on Feb. 20, the companies said Tuesday. A national rollout is scheduled for early March.

The film follows an unhip quartet of vampire friends ranging in age from 183 to 8,000 years old as they squabble over household chores, the struggle to keep up with the latest trends and the rigors of living on a strict diet. Clement and Waititi co-wrote and co-directed.

Unison films will handle the theatrical release and Paladin and Funny or Die will contribute to the social media and marketing campaign upon release.

In September Clement announced he was returning to HBO for a new series. The New Zealand comedian said the name of the series was yet to be disclosed but that Waititi, who directed a number of “Conchords,” was on board as well.
