Here’s What’s New on HBO Max in October 2021

There’s far more than ‘Dune’ and ‘The Many Saints of Newark’

It’s a big month for new content on HBO Max. The streaming service is due to launch the debuts of some of the most highly anticipated films of the year, new seasons of beloved shows, and on top of all that add even more great library content.

It all kicks off with the premiere of the “Sopranos” prequel movie “The Many Saints of Newark,” which hits theaters and HBO Max (for 31 days) on October 1. The other major day-and-date release this month is, of course, Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic “Dune” starring Timothee Chalamet. The film hits theaters and HBO Max on October 17, and stands as one of the most highly anticipated films of the year.

In terms of new TV, October on HBO and HBO Max is stacked. October 17 brings us the third season of the Emmy-award winning drama series “Succession,” while the final season of Issa Rae’s “Insecure” debuts on October 24 alongside the premiere of the new season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” And on October 28, we get the Season 2 premiere of the HBO Max original “Love Life,” for which Anna Kendrick passes the protagonist baton to “The Good Place” star William Jackson Harper as a new character looking for love.

This month also brings back “In the Heights” after its initial theatrical and HBO Max release earlier this summer, so now’s the time to catch up with this acclaimed musical if you missed it the first time around.

As for library titles, highlights this month include “Bad Boys” and “Bad Boys II,” Martin Scorsese’s Civil War-era epic “Gangs of New York” (which pairs nicely with Spielberg’s masterful “Lincoln,” also new to HBO Max this month), Wes Anderson’s delightful “Moonrise Kingdom” and much more. And if you’re looking for spooky things to watch, earmark “The Invisible Man,” “Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride” and “It: Chapter Two” to name a few.
