Who Needs the Presidency? Donald Trump Can Win an Emmy

The Donald is in the running for Reality Show Host, but he’s up against the Emmys’ nuttiest field of contenders: William Shatner, RuPaul…

Since that presidential thing didn't exactly work out, maybe Donald Trump can set his sights on a new honor: winning an Emmy.

But he'll have to get through William Shatner, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Tom Arnold, RuPaul, Heidi Klum and Larry the Cable Guy to get there.

Reality host contendersNot to mention Ryan Seacrest, Jeff Probst and Mike "Dirty Jobs" Rowe.

They're all among the 36 contenders in the Emmys' Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program category, according to the ballots posted online by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on Monday evening.

Trump has the advantage of being in one of the smallest Primetime Emmy categories, and certainly one of the nuttiest. The Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series field, by contrast, has 216 competitors.

For the record, in the three years that the reality-host category has been presented, Trump has never been nominated. (Neither have Rowe, Shatner, Austin, Arnold, RuPaul or Larry the Cable Guy.) The initial version of his show, "The Apprentice," has been nominated twice in its category's eight-year existence, though not since 2005 and never in its current incarnation as "The Celebrity Apprentice."

That show, incidentally, is once again a contender in the Reality-Competition category, alongside three dozen other shows. But might have missed a good bet for another Emmy by not being one of the 16 entrants in a category in which few can rival Trump: Outstanding Hairstyling for a Multi-Camera Series or Special.

How on earth did the Donald let that one slip by?
