‘Wonderstruck’ Trailer: Gorgeous, Tragic New York Tale Set in Two Eras (Video)

Todd Haynes’ follow-up to “Carol” is based on Brian Selznick’s acclaimed 2011 illustrated novel about two deaf children

Amazon Studios has released a new trailer for Todd Haynes’ “Wonderstruck,” which takes audiences on a beautiful, heartbreaking trip through the lives of two deaf children.

The filmmaker’s follow-up to his lesbian romance “Carol” is based on Brian Selznick’s acclaimed 2011 illustrated novel about two deaf children (Oakes Fegley and Millie Simmonds) from two separate eras who secretly wish their lives were different.

The young boy goes on a journey to learn more about his father based on a single book mark he found of a bookstore that no longer exists — while the young girl reads an enticing headline in a newspaper that sends her to New York.

Frequent Haynes collaborator Julianne Moore co-stars, alongside Michelle Williams.

“Wonderstruck” premiered at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival in May and competed for the Palme d’Or. It currently holds a 73 percent approval rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, based on 44 reviews.

Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions will release “Wonderstruck” in theaters on Oct. 20.
