Wyclef Jean Treated for Gunshot Wound to the Hand

Hip-hop star was wounded late Saturday night in Haiti, his publicist tells AP

Hip-hop singer Wyclef Jean was treated late-Saturday night at a hospital in Haiti for a gunshot wound to his hand, his publicist told the Associated Press.

According to the AP, the shooting happened in the Delmas section of the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince.

Cindy Tanenbaum, Jean's publicist, described the wound as "minor" to the wire service.

"He was immediately taken to the hospital, treated for a minor graze to his hand and released," she said. "He is fine."

So how did he get involved in the gun play? That much isn't clear.

Jean remains in Port-au-Prince to support Presidential candidate and fellow musician Michel "Sweet Micky" Martelly, who is running in today's election.

Jean himself had considered running for the office, but was forced into hiding late last summer after receiving death threats.

Jean, who went to high school in New Jersey, has since been campaigning for Martelly.
