Fox released the first minute of the premiere episode of “The X-Files” on Monday.

In the opening minute of the six-episode event series revival of the popular Fox show, Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) runs down his own history with the paranormal as he lays down pictures from his life and cases he investigated.

“My name is Fox Mulder,” he begins. “Since my childhood I’ve been obsessed by a controversial global phenomenon.” Mulder then details how his sister was abducted by aliens as a child, leading to his desire to explore the supernatural forces at work in the world.

“My obsession took me to the FBI, where I investigated paranormal science cases under the auspices of a unit known as The X-Files,” he continues.

“In 1993 the FBI sought to impugn my work, bringing in a scientist and medical doctor to debunk it, which only deepened my obsession for the better part of a decade,” he says, referring to special agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson.

During its initial nine-season run, “The X-Files” became one of the most successful television dramas of all time, hitting a peak ratings high in 1997 when more than 27 million people tuned in to the Season 5 premiere.

The six-episode “X-Files” event series will debut Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
