Phylicia Rashad (“Creed,” “This Is Us”) and Mamoudou Athie (“Jurassic World: Dominion,” “Unicorn Store”) are set to star in “Black Box” for Amazon Studios and Blumhouse Television, TheWrap has learned exclusively.

Amanda Christine, Tosin Morohunfola and Troy James round out the cast of the film directed by Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour (“Born With It”). Osei-Kuffour and Stephen Herman wrote the screenplay. Jay Ellis and Aaron Bergman from Black Bar Mitzvah are producing.

“Black Box” is about a man struggling to regain his memory after surviving a tragic car accident. Desperate to return to his former self while trying to raise his daughter, he receives an experimental treatment that helps him probe into a past which suddenly feels too dark to be his own.

“Black Box” will be part of the previously announced anthology of eight feature-length films that Amazon Studios and Blumhouse Television are producing. These will be high-concept thrillers told through the lens of diverse, underrepresented filmmakers. They will be launching exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

Rashad’s credits include “The Cosby Show,” “Creed,” “Empire,” “This Is Us,” “David Makes Man” and the upcoming “Jingle Jangle,” “Soul” and “Creed 3.” Athie’s credits include “Sorry For Your Loss,” “Cake,” “The Front Runner,” “Underwater,” “The Circle,” “The Detour” and “Patti Cake$.”

Rashad is represented by Innovative Artists and BKEntertainment, while Athie is represented by WME and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern, LLP. Christine is represented by Osbrink Agency and Transcend Talent Management, Morohunfola is repped by Stewart Talent and Anonymous Content, and James is repped by daCosta Talent Management.
