Emmys to Honor James Gandolfini, Cory Monteith, Others in Individual ‘In Memoriam’ Tributes

Also singled out: Gary David Goldberg, Jean Stapleton and Jonathan Winters

The 65th Emmy Awards Telecast will feature five special, individual “In Memoriam” tributes in addition to the traditional segment.

James Gandolfini, Cory Monteith, Gary David Goldberg, Jean Stapleton and Jonathan Winters will be honored separately by colleagues and friends in the industry.

Edie Falco will honor “Sopranos” co-star Gandolfini; Michael J. Fox  will pay tribute to “Family Ties” producer Goldberg; Jane Lynch will remember her friend and “Glee” co-star  Monteith; Rob Reiner will honor his longtime “All in the Family” cast member Stapleton; and Robin Williams will honor his friend and mentor Jonathan Winters (“Mork and Mindy”).

“The In Memoriam is a very emotional and evocative segment for the Emmys, or any annual awards program,” said Emmys Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich in a statement. “These five individuals brought us such great entertainment and joy, so having their close friends share personal remembrances is something that will be very meaningful for television audiences across the country and across the generations.”

Ehrlich also added that the traditional “In Memoriam” segment “will be presented in a unique new format.”

Neil Patrick Harris is host and producer of this year’s Emmys telecast, held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles and telecast live on Sep. 22 (8:00 PM EDT / 5:00 PM PDT) on CBS.
