“I still keep your shampoo in my shower/in case you wanna wash your hair,” singer-songwriter John Mayer croons on “Still Feel Like Your Man,” the first track off his upcoming new album “The Search For Everything.” Yes, that’s kind of TMI, but more important than the awkwardness of imagining old bottles in his shower is this: Just whose shampoo is he talking about?

Spoiler alert: It’s Katy Perry’s shampoo.

For more than two years, Mayer and the pop superstar were one of the most famous couples in the world. Then in early 2014, they broke up and went their separate ways. Perry moved on, and eventually ended up in a high profile relationship with “Pirates of the Caribbean” star Orlando Bloom. Mayer, on the other hand, not so much.

In an interview with the New York Times, the “Your Body is a Wonderland” singer admitted he hasn’t dated much since he and Perry broke up, and that “Still Feel Like Your Man” is about her.

“Who else would I be thinking about?” he said. “And by the way, it’s a testament to the fact that I have not dated a lot of people in the last five, six years. That was my only relationship. So it’s like, give me this, people.”

In the interview, Mayer also spoke frankly, and at length, about the last several years of his career, including the PR disaster he experienced in 2010 — thanks to interviews with Rolling Stone and Playboy in which he famously dropped the n-word and referred to his penis as “David Duke” — and his subsequent withdrawal from a high-publicity lifestyle.

But you’re here for the relationship stuff, so we’ll get back to it. Mayer, who turns 40 this year, is apparently ready to settle down, saying that he wants a baby and longs for a home. We can’t help him with that, but we can note that as of two weeks ago, Katy Perry and Bloom have reportedly called things off.
