Why Matthew McConaughey, Jimmy Kimmel Are ‘Tired of Streaming Movies’ (Video)

In new ad for Austin-based video rental store, the Oscar winner and the late-night host highlight the an expansive VHS collection

Matthew McConaughey and Jimmy Kimmel want to save you the hassle of streaming movies — if you live in Austin, Texas, at least.

The two teamed up while at South by Southwest to create a commercial for one local business, eventually selecting independent video rental store Vulcan Video.

“Tired of streaming movies directly to your TV?” Kimmel says to start off the ad. “So many options, so much scrolling, so many things to click. Who’s got time for all that clicking?”

“I hate streaming,” McConaughey screams at one point. “Quit strollin’! Quit streamin’! Start dreamin’ about VHS.”

The commercial highlighted Vulcan’s Asian horror collection, its popular Canadian TV catalog, and its large collection of VHS tapes, which McConaughey says is simply, “retro and vintage.” McConaughey, who lives thirty miles away, doesn’t mind the commute, either.

“Number one, I like to drive,” McConaughey says. “Number two, I like to talk to myself when I drive.”
