The comic-book legend and former Disney CEO plan to make studio-quality films, series and other content
Stan Lee's POW! Entertainment and Michael Eisner's Vuguru are partnering to make original digital content, the companies announced Wednesday.
They plan to make studio-quality movies, series and other content. and distribute across a variety of digital platforms. Those platforms include mobile devices, computers and video on demand, so this goes beyond typical web series.
Lee and Eisner are an interesting combination: Lee is the legendary comic-book creator who co-created Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Silver Surfer and others. Among other things, Eisner was CEO of the Walt Disney Company.
After Eisner left Disney in 2005, he founded Vuguru, an independent studio that develops digital content.
POW! Entertainment has been expanding its digital strategy. Its president, Gill Champion, said in a written statement that the partnership "is the start of an exciting new chapter that will enable us to expand our storytelling into the digital realm and more quickly and effectively reach our digital audience."
In 2010, Eisner's former company, Disney, bought a 10 percent stake in POW! Entertainment.
Neither Eisner nor Lee immediately responded to calls for comment.
