Netflix has acquired the worldwide rights to Alex Lehmann’s documentary feature, “Asperger’s Are Us,” the Duplass brothers announced today.

The film follows the renowned Boston comedy group Asperger’s Are Us. Executive produced by Duplass Brothers Productions and produced by Sean Bradley and Chris Dowling, “Asperger’s Are Us” marks Lehmann’s directorial debut.

“Asperger’s Are Us” is making its world premiere at SXSW Film Festival today; this acquisition marks the first major documentary deal of the 2016 festival.

“I spend most of my nights searching Netflix for new and interesting documentaries,” said Mark Duplass. “‘Asperger’s Are Us,’ with its dry, winning, massive heart, has found the perfect place to be discovered around the world.”

“This is the kind of film that needs a smart, hungry audience,” Lehmann said. “Nobody taps into that audience better than Netflix.”

ICM Partners and Submarine negotiated the deal with Netflix on behalf of the filmmakers.
