WDBJ TV News Shooter Identified as Former News Station Employee

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe says alleged shooter believed to be disgruntled station employee

The alleged shooter that killed two WDBJ journalists on Wednesday is currently in an active car chase with Virginia police.

Governor Terry McAuliffe said on the radio that the suspect is believed to be a disgruntled station employee.

Police are looking to speak to former station reporter Vester L. Flanagan.

The suspect shot and killed reporter Alison Parker, 24, and photographer Adam Ward, 27 on Tuesday at 6:45 a.m. ET while the two were on-air.

Police are very close to the suspect, CNN reported. The station reported on its journalists’ death on-air Wednesday morning. “We do not know the motive or who the suspect is,” an anchor said on-air.

Vicki Gardner, the executive director at Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce official who was being interviewed by Parker, was shot in the back and is currently in surgery.

Both journalists were in relationships with colleagues at the station. WDBJ7 General Manager Jeffrey Marks told CNN that Ward’s fiancee was in the control room when the shooting occurred.

Multiple media outlets report the police are in pursuit of the shooter on Interstate-64.
