Here’s some news that will make your days merry and bright, “9-1-1” fans: Bobby (Peter Krause) and Athena (Angela Bassett) are getting married! Or at least they’re engaged.

Bobby popped the question at the end of Monday’s midseason finale after thinking about his future with Athena throughout the episode. Given that emotions run high during the holidays, we asked showrunner Tim Minear: Will it last?

“Well, I think for people who have been through what they’ve been through, particularly him, and even Athena on some level — I think Bobby’s feeling is, he’s sure about her,” he said.

“And he knows how quickly life can change and how fast you can lose things. So I think for somebody who has been through the kind of trauma Bobby’s been through, making what might seem nuts or like a rash decision is maybe not rash at all. It may be the most sensible decision to make. But there is an element of it that may be in the moment — and I’m not sure it will be smooth sailing.”

That’s right: Bobby and Athena may not get a happily ever after, at least not right away. Minear tells us their “pasts will come back to haunt them” in the second half of Season 2 — because of course they will.

“9-1-1” Season 2 will return at midseason on Fox.
