Daryl Dragon, one half of pop duo Captain and Tennille, died Wednesday, Reuters reports. He was 76.

Dragon died of renal failure in Arizona. His ex-wife and musical collaborator Toni Tennille was with him at the time of his death.

“He was a brilliant musician with many friends who loved him greatly,” Tennille said in a statement. “I was at my most creative in my life, when I was with him.”

Dragon and Tennille racked up a string of hits in the 1970s, including “Love Will Keep Us Together,” “Do That to Me One More Time” and “Muskrat Love.”

Prior to forming Captain and Tennille, Dragon worked as a keyboardist for the Beach Boys. He and Tennille broke through as a duo with their 1975 version of Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield’s “Love Will Keep Us Together,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

He and Tennille married that same year. Tennille filed for divorce in 2014.

The duo also hosted a variety show on ABC from 1976 to 1977.
