ABC’s ‘World News’ Wins Key Ratings Demo for Second Straight Week

NBC’s “Nightly News” prevails in total viewers

ABC’s “World News With Diane Sawyer” won the key 25-54 news demo for the second straight week last week, marking the first time that “World News” has done so since March 2008. “World News” also posted its largest lead over NBC’s “Nightly News” in more than five years.

For the week of April 14, “World News” edged out “Nightly News” in the demo, averaging 2.093 million viewers 25-54, compared to 2.008 million for “Nightly News.”

In total viewers, NBC’s “Nightly News” prevailed for the week, averaging 8.751 million viewers compared to 7.924 million for “World News.” However, ABC’s news program cut its total viewer gap versus “Nightly News” for the third straight week, narrowing the gap by 19 percent versus the previous week.

Compared to the previous week, “World News” was up 7 percent in total viewers and 11 percent in the demo.

CBS’s “Evening News” drew third place for the week, averaging 1.498 million demo viewers and 6.274 total viewers.
