‘Aquaman’ Makes Huge Splash at Comic-Con in First Trailer (Video)

San Diego Comic-Con 2018: James Wan and Jason Momoa bring the wrath of Poseidon to Hall H

Hold onto your fins, everyone. James Wan and Jason Momoa brought “Aquaman” to San Diego Comic-Con during Warner Bros.’ annual Hall H panel Saturday morning, along with the first trailer for the film that dares to ask: can Aquaman actually be cool?

The answer is apparently “hell yes,” judging from the footage, which you can watch above.

Based on the character created in 1941 by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris for DC, “Aquaman” picks up after the events of “Justice League,” as Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa), the reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, is caught in a battle between surface dwellers that threaten his oceans and his own people, who are ready to lash out and invade the surface.

The trailer gives an idea of how “Aquaman” will fill in Arthur’s backstory, and also showed villain Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), who will definitely be blowing up buildings with laser eyes.

Horror maestro Wan directs from a script by David Leslie, Johnson-McGoldrick, and Will Beall. The film also stars Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Abdul-Mateen, and Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna.

“Aquaman” hits theaters Nov. 21.
