Cue up that creepy Oompa Loompa song — "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is coming to London's West End in musical form.
A musical based on the Roald Dahl classic is in the works for a June 2013 debut at the London Palladium, Playbill reports. "Jarhead" director Sam Mendes will helm the production, which is being produced by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, Neal Street Productions and Kevin McCormick.

"Damascus" scribe David Greig is writing the book, with new music being composed by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who won Tonys for their work in "Hairspray" and contribute to NBC's Broadway-centric series "Smash."

A stage production of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" to be directed by Mendes with music from Shaiman and Wittman was originally planned for Broadway in 2009.
Published in 1964, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" has spawned two movies — 1971's "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" and 2005's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," which starred Johnny Depp as the eccentric candy manufacturer who teaches contest winner Charlie Bucket some important if potentially brain-warping life lessons.
