Conservative firebrand Andrew Breitbart, who died March 1 at the age of 43, was killed by heart failure and hardening of the arteries, the Los Angeles Coroner's Office said Friday.

The Los Angeles County Coroner has determined that Breitbart, who built a name as a right-wing internet muckraker and helped force the resignation of New York Rep. Anthony Weiner, died a "natural" death, and had no illicit or prescription drugs in his system. Breitbart did have a blood-alcohol level of .04 percent at the time of his death.
The official cause of death is listed as heart failure, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy — a thickening of heart muscle — with focal coronary atherosclerosis.
No foul play is suspected,and no significant trauma was detected.

Breitbart, a Los Angeles native and Tulane graduate, became one of the more recognizable conservative figures in the media world. He was a regular on Fox News and other news channels, a fixture at Tea Party events and an Internet entrepreneur.
He then founded Breitbart.com in 2005 and later launched BigHollywood.com, BigGovernment.com, BigJournalism.com and other sties. They mixed right-leaning commentary with aggregation of other stories and original reporting.
He uncovered or inserted himself into a series of major political stories over the past few years, including the Anthony Weiner scandal and the unwarranted firing of Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod.
